Carmina Burana
at the beach
Against the significant background of the setting sun Carl Orff's masterpiece, Carmina Burana, will be performed at the Noorderstrand in Scheveningen in a unique manner. Over 300 singers, ten talented dancers from De Dutch Junior Dance Division, three magnificent soloists, the vigorous piano duo Scholtes & Janssens and the passionate percussionists of Percossa join their forces in this co-production of Festival Classique with Kwekers in de kunst and OPERA2DAY. A concert as a compelling ritual in a décor of sand and sea at nightfall.
Dame Fortune's whims, particularly in love, have fascinated, frustrated and inspired man for centuries, Carl Orff included. He used 24 medieval poems about fate and love from the Carmina Burana as the basis for his masterpiece. His Carmina Burana grew into one of the best-liked choral works in the repertoire, a piece having ritual powers which succeeds in enthralling generation after generation. On the Noorderstrand beach the work will be uniquely performed in a special setting. Musicians, a choir of exceptional proportions, dancers and soloists will give a touching portrait of Dame Fortune, showing us her wheel is relentless, even for herself.
Carmina Burana is produced by Festival Classique, OPERA2DAY and Kwekers in de kunst, together with De Dutch Don’t Dance Division and percussion group Percossa.
