Join OPERA2DAY

Have you always wanted to perform or sing in an opera? With OPERA2DAY, you can. In many of our productions, people from all over the country take part—on stage, behind the scenes, and sometimes even right in the middle of the story.

In every city where we perform, we invite people to join our productions. Young and old, experienced and inexperienced alike can participate as extras, members of an amateur choir, set builders, or even as actors. Together we rehearse, sing, and perform scenes. This way, you don’t just attend a performance—you become part of it.

Extras wanted for La Révolution de Carmen

This September, OPERA2DAY presents a revolutionary production of Bizet’s opera Carmen. We’re looking for extras to take part in the intermission program — and you can be one of them!

ROC Mondriaan tijdens The Opera Circus

In The Opera Circus, we see how two gods are entangled in an age-old feud. In an apocalyptic landscape, they battle each other with fierce intensity. Their exhausting struggle seems hopeless—until a traveling circus troupe becomes stranded with them. From that moment on, everything changes. Carefree, playful, and full of confidence, the young performers set the world in motion again. Color returns, love begins to bloom, and a happy ending lies ahead. Students from ROC Mondriaan De Meppel took circus classes with the circus school Circaso. Circus brings people together, builds confidence, and encourages you to dare things you never thought possible. As a special finale, the students attended the opera together for the first time.

La Révolution de Carmen

In 2025, 150 jaar na de première presenteert OPERA2DAY een revolutionaire uitvoering van de meest geliefde opera ooit: Carmen. Bekijk de video waarin Coördinator Educatie- en participatie Evelien Storm vertelt over het stadsprogramma van La Révolution de Carmen.

Graffiti

Young people from The Hague created large canvases at the Graffiti Workshop for display in the foyers of Amare. They also stepped onto the stage live, becoming a true part of the performance.

Actors in the foyer

During the interval of La Révolution de Carmen, the foyer was transformed into the Parisian nightlife of 1875. Amateur actors staged protests, rallying the audience to sign petitions and chant slogans in support of the Commune: against child labour, for women’s rights, and more.

As part of La Révolution de Carmen, we created a special exhibition together with Haags Verhaal.

Choirs in Amare

When you think of Carmen, you think of the Habanera. Seven amateur choirs performed this world-famous piece together with mezzo-soprano Lucie van Ree in the foyer of Amare as part of our opera. Prior to the performance, they were coached by a professional conductor.

NOW WE ARE EARTH / An Orchestra is a musical and visual dance opera by Nicole Beutler Projects. OPERA2DAY co-produced this production and contributed to making it a major national success. In every city on the tour, we assembled a choir of enthusiastic singing lovers to bring the performance to life together. Experienced singers or anyone who simply enjoys singing—everyone was welcome.

Don Quichot

OPERA2DAY reisde begin 2023 door het land met de voorstelling De vernuftige edelman Don Quichot van La Mancha naar het gelijknamige beroemde boek van Cervantes. Tegelijkertijd schreven 1043 schrijvers in het hele land, jong en oud, nieuwe avonturen voor Don Quichot, waarbij zij zich laten inspireren door hun eigen leven. Alle nieuw-geschreven avonturen tref je aan op deze website en maakten bovendien deel uit van de voorstellingsavond. De bezoekers kregen elk een uniek exemplaar mee naar huis.

Hamlet

In 2018, we devised a prologue to the famous opera Hamlet. The piece begins shortly after the death of Hamlet’s father. Just before the performance, the funeral procession of the old king passed through the theatre foyer, moving among the audience. A local amateur choir, joined by students from the education programme, performed an arrangement of a funeral march from the opera, accompanied live by a brass ensemble. In the afternoon, a dress rehearsal took place in the theatre with the choir and the brass ensemble. In the evening, the participants attended the performance, following their own ceremonial appearance in the foyer.
