Orchestra auditions ‘Carmen’ to start
In our latest opera, La révolution de Carmen, we are inviting several students from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague to join the renowned B’Rock Orchestra from Ghent—a grand ensemble of more than 40 instrumentalists. The audition day took place on November 27.
Working Sessions
Conservatoire students could apply by submitting a video, after which they were invited to audition. During these auditions, the students worked on various pieces from Carmen alongside our musical director Hernán Schvartzman, B’Rock concertmaster Cecilia Bernardini, and répétiteur Shintaro Kawahara. With these sessions, OPERA2DAY aims not only to select instrumentalists for the orchestra but also to provide an enriching day that helps students progress in the world of opera—an invaluable opportunity for their career development.
B’Rock
The vibrant B’Rock Orchestra from Ghent made waves this year with its interpretation of Carmen on period instruments, performing in concerts across Europe under the direction of René Jacobs. They played a version as Bizet originally envisioned it, before the managers of the Opéra-Comique in Paris demanded major changes—only then was the famous Habanera introduced, for example. OPERA2DAY, in collaboration with B’Rock, will present this earliest version in a reimagining of the iconic opera.
