Opera in the classroom and on stage<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Looking for a unique cultural experience for your students? Let them not only watch opera \u2014 but create it.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

With almost every production, OPERA2DAY develops educational projects for secondary schools. For us, education and participation are not side activities, but an integral part of the artistic concept of each performance.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In our projects, students take an active role in or around the production. They create, explore, collaborate and reflect on themes from the performance \u2014 and on their own world.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“When the curtain fell, the students immediately stood up and started applauding. They said: \u2018Wow, I didn\u2019t know opera could be like this!\u2019”<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In previous projects, students created an exhibition of miniature theatres in the foyer, inspired by the themes of The Opera Circus<\/em>. For La R\u00e9volution de Carmen<\/em>, they designed protest posters. And in Mariken and the Garden of Earthly Delights<\/em>, students even performed on stage themselves.<\/p>\n

ROC Mondriaan during The Opera Circus <\/h2>\n \n

In The Opera Circus, two gods are locked in an ancient feud. In an apocalyptic landscape they battle each other fiercely, their exhausting struggle seemingly without end. Until a travelling circus troupe unexpectedly crosses their path. From that moment on, everything changes. Playful, carefree and full of trust, the young circus performers set the world in motion again. Colour returns, love begins to bloom \u2014 and a happy ending appears on the horizon.\r\n\r\nStudents from the transition class of ROC Mondriaan De Meppel took circus lessons from the circus school Circasso. Circus brings people together, builds confidence and encourages you to try things you never thought possible. As a special finale, the students attended the opera together \u2014 many of them for the very first time.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n

Expo: The Opera Circus mini-theaters<\/h2>\n \n

Students from 5 HAVO and VWO explored the theme of trust and mistrust during a series of workshops. They built miniature theatre models with wing scenery, which were later exhibited in the foyers of the theatres where we performed. Afterwards, they attended the performance and saw how this same theme also played a role in The Opera Circus.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n

In 2025, 150 years after its premiere, OPERA2DAY presents a revolutionary new production of one of the most beloved operas ever: Carmen.
