Orchestra auditions for Carmen kick off
In our latest opera La révolution de Carmen, we are inviting several students from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague to join the renowned B’Rock Orchestra from Ghent. This large ensemble consists of more than 40 instrumentalists. The audition day took place on November 27.
Workshops
Conservatory students could apply by submitting a video, after which they were invited to audition in person. During these auditions, the students worked alongside our musical director Hernán Schvartzman, B’Rock concertmaster Cecilia Bernardini, and répétiteur Shintaro Kawahara on various pieces from Carmen. OPERA2DAY aims not only to select instrumentalists for the orchestra but also to organize an educational day that will help students advance in the world of opera. It is a wonderful opportunity for the development of their careers.
B’Rock
The sparkling B’Rock Orchestra from Ghent made a splash this year with their interpretation of Carmen on historical instruments during concerts led by René Jaobs across Europe. They performed a version of the opera as composer Bizet originally envisioned it, before the managers of the Opéra Comique de Paris demanded significant changes – for instance, it was at this stage that the Habanera was introduced. OPERA2DAY, in collaboration with B’Rock, will present this earliest version in a retelling of the famous opera.
