HAMLET NOMINATED FOR VSCD AWARD 'OVATIE 2018'

HAMLET NOMINATED FOR VSCD AWARD 'OVATIE 2018'

We are proud. The Dutch Vereniging van Schouwburg- en Concertgebouwdirecties VSCD [Society of theatre and concert hall managers] nominated 'Hamlet', which we produced together with the New European Ensemble, for the Ovatie 2018 [Ovation 2018], the classical music award for last season's most impressive performance. The other two nominees are the Nederlandse Bachvereniging (for its Weihnachtsoratorium) and the Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw (for Ein deutsches Requiem). The price was eventually awarded to the Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw.

The jury writes about Hamlet: “Using modest means, ingenious finds and the contribution of his production team, cast and ensemble director Serge van Veggel manages to elevate this neglected opera to an exciting experience. OPERA2DAY & New European Ensemble's 'Hamlet' shows insight into the psychological tragedy against a beautifully styled background. The singers are first-rate and impassioned. The New European Ensemble and conductor Hernán Schvartzman make every effort to make the score sing from beginning to end. OPERA2DAY attracts attention; the company embodies numerous new insights into similar almost forgotten repertoire and breathes fresh life into it.”
